Sisters Maikku and Hammi Mettinen bring their architectural vision and multi-disciplinary design background to EARBIT. Born to a blacksmith father, they inherited both the eye for detail and the understanding that lasting design requires knowing how to create – a philosophy that has guided their work throughout their careers.
The EARBIT journey began in 2021, when Maikku walked into the studio with a simple yet revolutionary idea:
"Something like this."
An earring that would sit higher on the ear—without weight or tension, without stretching the earlobe or pulling facial features downward. Quite the opposite. Like skillful makeup or a perfect haircut, its higher center of gravity would enhance the face's best features.
EARBIT introduces a completely new way to wear earrings. These lightweight, non-pierced earrings with endless styling possibilities are designed for everyone regardless of age, style, or identity.
After a lengthy development process and over 50 prototypes, Maikku and Hammi finally solved this eternal problem. Drawing from their multi-designer background, they immediately created an entire collection that adapts to all styles and individuals.
Their journey in design began early. As young girls, they started by reimagining and modifying existing clothes, soon progressing to creating entire garments for themselves and their friends. This hands-on approach, combined with their architect's perspective, has always informed their design philosophy: functional beauty with structural integrity.
For over 40 years, the Finnish designer sisters have gained international recognition with their timeless and high-quality clothing collections, characterized by playful innovation and sold across Europe and Japan. Beyond EARBIT, they continue to design and handcraft bespoke clothing. In fact, most garments seen on our models are designed and handmade by the duo themselves.

Founded in spring 2023, the EARBIT brand represents something truly groundbreaking in the design world, bringing fresh innovation to an accessory that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.
In 2024, this family business expanded when Maikku's daughter joined, completing the team.
